Classes at Highland Lake Yoga are suitable for people of any age, from elite athletes to folks who consider themselves "out of shape". Most classes on the schedule are multi-level and on-going. That is, they are open to all students and one may start at any class. Private classes may be arranged for students of any level or for individuals with special needs, and for groups, such as weddings and corporate events.
Dawn Patrol – Monday through Saturday, 7:00 - 8:30am
The sun rises over the garden during Dawn Patrol as yoga students greet the day! A typical early morning class consists of 3 segments in an open-learning environment. The first 30 minutes involves "free-style yoga play". During this time students are invited to utilize the wall ropes, pelvic swing, and other yoga equipment available, or practice poses. New students will be shown how to use the equipment in ways appropriate to their level of experience.
During the second 30 minutes, we do Sun Salutations or the "Five Tibetan Rites" which is an ancient routine from Tibet that has helped thousands of people achieve new levels of energy plus relief from many of the effects of stress and aging. A total body workout consisting of five dynamic exercises for health, energy, and personal empowerment, the routine requires about 15 minutes once learned. Weather permitting – this portion of morning sessions is done on an outdoor elevated deck overlooking the beautiful organic gardens and lake.
The final 30 minutes of the class highlights asana practice focusing on poses selected by the teacher followed by a deep relaxation period.
Good Morning Yoga – Monday & Wednesday, 9:15 - 10:15am
In this class we will explore various groups of poses, depending on the needs and capabilities of the students. Some classes will emphasize backbends, inversions, or standing poses while other classes will consist of a flowing practice (portions of the Ashtanga First Series, the Dance of Shiva, etc.).
Evening Yoga – Monday & Friday, 5:30 - 7:00pm
Leave your stress at the door. Begin and end your week by centering your mind, body and thoughts. This class will energize you while allowing your body to work out responses to stressful situations.
Beginning Yoga – Tuesday, 5:30 - 7:00pm
We start from scratch! Thorough and gentle instruction on the foundation asanas (postures) and breathing exercises provide a wonderful foundation for new students and terrific review for more experienced students. This class is challenging (in a good way!) and will open your heart, hips, and mind.
Kundalini Yoga – Thursday, 5:30 - 7:00pm
An invigorating style of Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan. Kundalini Yoga is a dynamic blend of movement, stretching, breathing, mantra and meditation. This scientific approach safely facilitates the flow of prana through the chakras to achieve quick results. (Donation Class)
Weekend Yoga – Saturday & Sunday, 10:00 - 11:30am
Relax and unwind exploring various poses depending on the needs and capabilities of the students. The weekend is here!
